Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia, presided over by Judge Reza Najafzadeh and Associate Judge Esmaeil Bazarkari, sentenced five detainees from the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising in Bukan to twelve death sentences in total, several years of discretionary imprisonment, and monetary fines.
According to available information, Ali (Soran) Qasemi, Pejman Soltani, Kaveh Salehi, Rezgar Beikzadeh Babamiri, and Teymour Salimi Babamiri were convicted of charges including ‘armed rebellion (baghi),’ ‘waging war against the state (moharebeh)’ and ‘leading and forming a criminal rebel group’ under the name ‘Anjoman-e Shoreshgaran and Şamarin’. Three of them were each sentenced to three death penalties, one to two, and the fifth to one.
In addition to the death sentences, the five were sentenced to discretionary imprisonment of between five and 15 years and fined a total of 358 million tomans for charges including “collaborating with the hostile government of Israel”, “conducting intelligence missions for Mossad,” “smuggling 120 Starlink satellite devices”, “propaganda against the regime” and “assembly and collusion to act against national security.”
Eight other defendants in this case were also sentenced to prison terms and monetary fines. Seven of them had previously been released on bail. Another defendant, Dr. Salahaddin Ahmadi, was acquitted of the charges in this case, but is facing a separate trial for “financing terrorism”.
The rulings were issued during three online court sessions and formally communicated to the defendants’ lawyers on Monday, 7 July 2025.
