Sirwan Aryo Leylax: The Iranian government should provide serious actions for changes instead of giving empty promises

Interview

After the government of Hassan Rouhani came to power, some changes have been done in foreign policy. However, in domestic policies, such as citizen rights to non-Persian nationalities in Iran, promises have remained as announcements and slogans. What is more, the repressions and executions have increased in numbers.

Sirwan Aryo Leylax, member of Coordination of Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), analysed these issues in an interview with Firat News Agency. ”Iran has not entered into a situation of action yet”, Leylax said. He emphasized that the internal politics determine as well foreign policy.

1. In that last statement issued, you have mentioned the recent changes in Iran which started at the same time as the presidential election. What is the reason of these changes at this point?

The changes have not been done in practice, they remain solely as words. However, we could approach these positive steps. We could say that at this stage we regard the changes in their speeches as a first step and regard some of their mistakes in the past is perspective of their current good faith. Now, things must be approached differently than in the past. Changes should be visible and tangible to show good for their acts. In fact, in the starting of political discussion in Iran and other areas in the region, neither national nor international forces will not be able to ignore the Kurdish community. Regional and extra regional forces should consider in their equations a factor that gains spiritual and material abundance in all areas of Kurdistan. The democratic liberation and struggles of Kurds and other nationalities in Iran and religious diversity efforts have been important in this role. In other words, internal politics of Iran and other countries with respect to Kurds will determine their the foreign policy.

2. On the 100th day of his work, Rouhani offered the citizens rights to different nationalities in Iran. What is your opinion about the citizens rights? Has it been able to provide the political, social, economic rights and cultural needs for other nationalities in Iran?

If the concepts of the definition of citizens rights have redefined the view of those who have to make decisions on their own terms, that could be a step in the way of democratisation of Iran. In this regards, cloning and destroying different nationalities in the past must be well analysed. Disputes and differences must not be a reason for the discrepancy of societies, concepts and groups or transformation in Iran. The differences in Iran are not a threat to the unity and security of state. In fact, they have advantages and benefits for Iran. There is no doubt that the people who are in power cannot decide or make decision about the political, social, economic and cultural rights instead of Iranian nationalities. However, they must guarantee and provide participatory discussion and implementation for all nationalities in Iran. Therefore, it can be the transition to practice for the Islamic Republic of Iran that is facing either domestic or foreign crises. However, the formulation and presentation of a unilateral declaration cannot provide the political, social, economic and cultural rights in Iran. Removing the barriers in the way of social progress will determine their fate.

3. The Islamic Republic of Iran has been in power for more than three decades. It has shown that substantial changes are associated with many obstacles and even some people considered that it is impossible to make changes in Iran. In your opinion, is it possible to make fundamental changes in Iran?

All Iranian liberation movements have been struggling for years to make changes in Iran. Certainly, this is not impossible. However, it is a mistake if we just wait for the governments to make changes in Iran. Because the real changes will be done by public participation and all communities’ opinions in Iran. This way, the government have to accept people’s demands. By convergence of all strugglings of Iranian societies, the government will be forced away from conservatism and dogmatism. Moreover, by participating the democratic groups in the process of decision-making about the communities will be a great step in their current practice.
