Objections raised over suspicious death of Kurdish student

Seher Chuyini

On 10th Oct the body of Seher Chuyini was found with signs of torture on it. This has strengthened the belief that she was brutally murdered. The 19 year old Seher was a student in the Medical Science department of University of Hamadan.
This is while the law enforcement units have denied the murder not making any reports in this regards.
This suspicious death with all the signs of torture on her body has concerned people of Kurdistan especially Meriwan, the city that she comes from.
On 11th Oct there were some clashes between Meriwan youths and the Intelligence Services at the funeral when the units of Intelligence Services tried to disturb people. In this ceremony Seher’s family and friends, women associations, Green Mountains of Meriwan Organization, and also many people from Meriwan took part trying to calm the situation.

 

Meriwan Women Association statement:

In opposition to this suspicious death Meriwan Women Organization released a statement mentioning several important points as follows:
“The murdering of Seher Chobini needs to be clarified
The wrong claim of the regime saying that Seher committed suicide needs to be corrected
The committers of this murder needs to be identified and a public trail should be held for them
The universities need to provide security and safety to their female students in order to let them study without fear and anxiety
Such tragedies should not be allowed to happen again”.

 

Azarmehr Women Association statement

In conjunction with this, Azarmehr Women Associations issued a statement expressing their concerns in this regards. Azer Mehir Association which is an active women organization in Europe mentioned that ‘Seher’s friends say that “Seher has not committed suicide” and thus the Nursing Students of Hamadan University protested against this.’ This association continues stating ‘we will not be silent until the complete clarification of the case’.
The Association said ‘Azer Mehir Women Association along with classmates of this Kurdish student, students in the Medical Science Department of Hamadan University and civilians, requests the university authorities to expose the reality of the incident. They have also complained for the neglecting and preventing of the news coverage by social media and demand Hamadan University to reveal the sources behind this incident.’
They have sent a copy of their statement to Abo Ali Sina University.

 

Meriwan NGO and Cultural association’s statement

Vejin Art-Cultural Centre, Cultural-Literary Association of Meriwan, Runan Cultural-Scientific Centre, Green Mountain Association and Jin Health Centre have also issued a joint statement requesting the clarification of suspect murder. In their declaration they have said ‘Great people of Meriwan! As you are also aware, the recent suspicious death of nursing student at the University of Hamadan has depressed the society inducing condition of hatred and suspicious in universities.
We as the voices of the people of Meriwan, express our deep sympathy with the family of the missing loved and send our condolences to the student societies all over the country asking people and judicial authorities to pay attention to the followings:
According to the recent comments of President Chief Judicial regarding the impartiality of country’s judicial service, and according to the sensitivity of the situation in the city and region, in order to enlighten the public proving the justice of the judicial process, this case needs to be transparenced.
Secondly, concerning the condition that has impacted the case; we ask local and national media to avoid expressing unprofessional statements and until the complete clarification of the case avoid fictions.
Thirdly, we expect from Meriwan representatives in the Parliament to take steps accelerating the processes of investigation and judicial.
Fourth, it is expected from the student and civil society to follow the legal requirements in regards to this issue while avoiding any rumors and prejudice.
Fifth, without a doubt, apathy and lack of transparency in the judicial process of this unfortunate event causes loss of public confidence, especially in the university environment and compromise the security of family and community. We believe that the transparency of the judicial process restore peace in the hatred condition of the society and will certainly reduce the social consequences of this kind of unfortunate incidents.”
