ANF, MERIWAN – Seven children were seriously wounded as a result of the explosion of a mine in Nişkaşe village of East Kurdistan’s Meriwan city.

One of the children, eight year old Geshin Kerimi, reportedly lost his foot in the explosion which occurred on Friday morning, reported Iranian Tenim news agency. Kerimi is receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital Tehran and the other six children at the Bu Eli hospital in Meriwan city.

Omid Kerimiyan, member of the Iranian parliament for Meriwan, stated that one of the children found the mine in a mined terrain and brought it to the village where it later exploded as children played with it.

Kerimiyan reminded that a recent mine explosion in Meriwan’s Dizle village has left one person dead, and pointed out that the Iranian Minister of the Interior was unconcerned with cleaning the mines in the country.

Dozens of people in East Kurdistan are left dead, wounded and disabled as a result of the explosion of the mines planted during the Iran-Iraq war.
