SÂO PAULO, BRAZIL — In Latin America the Leading Civic Organizations and Revolutionary, the Social Movements of Continental Congress “ALBA” was established. The representatives of Kurdistan’s Communities Union (KCK) also attended the ceremony of this congress.
From 16th to 20th of May, the congress of the Rural Movements was held in Florestan Fernandes National School in the village Guararema near the São Paulo the capital of Brazil. Hugo Chavez the then leader of Venezuela, who died in March 2013, was remembered and respected in the congress. The delegation of KCK was invited to the Congress. Also members of the supportive Committee of the Latin America and Kurdistan attended. The KCK flag was installed at the congress hall.
From Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Dominique Islands, Haiti, Panama, Cuba, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Canada 200 participants attended the Congress. Also from these countries; the labor unions, the civic organizations, the youth and student movements, the municipalities, the women’s movements, peace platforms, ecological movements and civil society organizations sent representatives to the meeting and discussion took the form of several commissions.
Among the main topics of the congress was: “Government and Power”, “Self-defense against the imperialist attacks”, “inter-communal solidarity”, “Increasing the participation of social movements in countries where the Leftist are in power”, “Women and gender inequality” and “Direct communication between nations”.
A meeting was also held analyzing dialogue processes in Colombia and Turkey. The journalist and sociologist Mehmet Ali Dogan was one of the speakers at this conference. He had a speech about the “democratic peace process in Turkey initiated by Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan”, the reasons for withdrawal of HPG and KCK, approaches of Turkish state, AKP government and imperialist countries in the region, thoughts of people in West Kurdistan about Democratic Confederalism”.
The Colombian delegation also spoke in the congress and emphasized that anti-democratic practices and anti-guerrillas practices a in both Turkey and Colombia are quite similar. Consequently, their actions are quite similar.
Freedom for Ocalan and Political Prisoners in Kurdistan Campaign was introduced to the congress by the Bolivian delegation. Then all the participants who were members of the Congress signed the petition for Ocalan’s freedom.
After all the participants signed up for Ocalan’s freedom, they said that the petition will be taken to their countries to collect more signatures and the campaign’s results will be presented soon to the organizing committee.
In the congress, it was decided to introduce further the Kurdish nation to Latin American countries by launching series of gathering and peaceful demonstrations. For that reason, the two delegations of Colombia and Kurdistan jointly decided from August onwards the series of conferences, film festivals and cultural activities are to be held.
