Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has sent a message to the Kurdish and Turkish people through the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) delegation, co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and deputies Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan, who visited him on Imralı island on Wednesday. The delegation made no statements after the visit, while the message Öcalan sent was read during the celebrations for the Kurdish leader’s birthday in Urfa’s Halfeti district yesterday.

Öcalan saluted tens of thousands people who have arrived in his village, Amara, to celebrate his birthday on 4 April, saying that “Today is not my the birthday but the re-birth of all Kurdish people”.

The Kurdish leader remarked that “Today there is a significant chance for a dignified peace which is the most important thing we can present our people. I believe I have done my fair share of the work within the time of 64 years I have left behind. It is now our people’s turn to make a move and to undertake the duty”.

Öcalan called on every self respecting person to act and to develop the current process which – he underlined – “would lead to a different life”.

“I hope there will be no bloodshed and nobody will hurt another while the current process makes an advancement with the dedication of all circles. It is our people and other peoples that will mainly lead this process which is also closely related with the step women will take into the real life. I have never stopped my efforts to create a free life for women who have an eternal power to reveal and improve opportunities for a free life. I am quite fine and I will continue to be so till the end of my time. On this basis, I once again salute everybody with my trust in peace”, he added.
