EAST KURDISTAN, SEQIZ — The case of Sherko Moarefi, Kurdish political prisoner, held in Seqiz prison, and was sentenced to death, still remained undecided in the Commission of Forgiveness and Pardon of Province of Sine. Then, he is under the threat of death penalty.
According to Hrana, Sherko Moarefi, Kurdish political prisoner that was sentenced to death by Iranian Revolutionary Court, is waiting for the decision of Commission of Forgiveness and Pardon of Judicial Ministry of Iran.
Moarefi, 30 years old, from city of Bane was arrested on 30 September 2008 and was accused of Moharebeh (waging war against god) by Iranian Revolutionary Court in the city of Seqiz in Eastern Kurdistan and sentenced to death.
The case of Sherko Moarefi was confirmed by Court Appeal of Sine and Iranian Supreme Court and as the result he is under threat of execution.
Sherko Moarefi on March 2012 started a hunger strike in protest of his unclear and uncertain situation.
over 20 Kurdish prisoners are believed to be on death row in connection with their alleged membership of and activities for proscribed Kurdish organizations.
