Letter from jailed BDP deputy Sariyildiz on the hunger strike

NEWSDESK, — The following is a letter written by jailed Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Faysal Sariyildiz about the Kurdish hunger strike calling on people to support prisoners.

“Dear reader, one or more of our thousands comrades in prison may be crossing the “critical threshold” while you are reading this letter.

We are learning by experience what it is like for a body to fade away, to become smaller and smaller. Our comrades don’t expect anything from the fascist system for they know very well what it means to be left to its mercy. We would like our people to act bearing this in mind.

The life adventure of ten comrades in our ward gives a very good idea about the sociological structure of the Kurdish movement and the hunger strike carried out by youths arrested after joining the guerrilla from universities, villages and cities, as well as by BDP central executive board members, city council members, some other people arrested because of their work, because of the institutions they belong to, or at demonstrations and many others from all sections of the Kurdish society. In its essence, this hunger strike is carried on by people living in what we call democratic nation […]

As of today [12 November], my comrades have entered the 62nd day of hunger strike and I am on the 30th. Some of those in our ward, Dijwar, Mahir and Dr. Cihan, cannot swallow any liquid any more. A comrade is trying to make them drink, saying that; “A revolutionary is supposed to keep his firm will and dignity till the last moment, even on the way to death”.
