A hunger striker taken to Amed hospital

AMED, — The hunger strike entered its 67th day today. One of the Kurdish prisoners who has been on hunger strike since 4 November was taken to Amed hospital last night, local sources said, due to gastric bleeding.

Umit Aslan one of the hunger strikers was hospitalised last night when he started to suffer from gastric bleeding at around 3.00 am with local time.

32 years old Aslan who has been on huger strike in Amed D Type Prison was transferred to Dicle University Hospital following immediate treatment at Training and Research Hospital.

According to the reports Aslan is being kept under observation while has undergone a liver transplant two years ago.

Over 700 Kurdish political prisoners of PKK and PAJK cases staged an indefinite under strike on 12 September. The fast was joined by 10,000 political prisoners on 5 November.

They demand the right to defense in the court proceedings in their mother tongue and the ending of solitary confinement of Abdullah Ocalan, the Kurdish national leader.
