Kurdish singer Şiwan Perwer joins the hunger strike

HEWLER, South Kurdistan, — Kurdish ginger Siwan Perwer along with a number of Kurdish artists launched a solidarity hunger strike in front of Kurdistan Regional Parliament in Hewler city on Friday. “Demands of hunger strikers [Kurdish prisoners in Turkey] are our demands,” he said.

In a press release on behalf of the group that was read by Şivan Perwer it was said; “How could you put a ban on this language that has been created by God,” underling that language and education in mother tongue cannot be subjected to bans.

“Their demands are our demands and they must be fulfilled before we witness deaths”, said Perwer who also called attention to the isolation imposed on Kurdish national leader, pointing out that the denial of his meeting with lawyers and family violates both domestic and international law.

The hunger strike in Hewler is expected to be joined by more people in the coming days as no date has been stated as to how long it will last.
