Barzani: Kurds have the right to self determination

masoud-barzaniHEWLER, South Kurdistan, — In a conference held on 19 February in Hewler city for the 66th anniversary of Kurdistan Republic, the president of Kurdistan Regional Government said the Kurds have the right to self-determination.  

The conference was attended by numbers of Kurdish high profile politicians including the President of Federal Kurdistan Regional Government, Massoud Barzani, former head of government, Berhem Salih, BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, DTK Co-Chairs Ahmet Turk and Aysel Tugluk, Deputies Leyla Zana, Sirri Sakik, Nazmi Gur as well as representatives of political parties and civil society organizations, intellectuals and writers from Turkey and Syria.

Making the opening speech of the conference, Massoud Barzani pointed out that Kurds have faced and suffered from severe miseries and slaughters in the struggle they have given for a long time.

Barzani continued as follows; “However, the point reached today has shown that this problem cannot be solved through policies of violence. Like all other peoples, Kurds also have the right for national self-determination. This right should be respected by everyone and the problem should be solved through peaceful ways.” 

Barzani underlined that the enemies of Kurds have always followed policies of splitting Kurds and making them kill each other. “However, Kurds will not kill or fight against each other anymore”, he added.
