IRAN, — Saturday 11 February (22 Bahman with Iranian calendar) was the 33rd anniversary of the Iranian people revolution which later seized by the Islamic fundamentalists who founded the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979.
Ever since then the government has organised protests throughout the country to commemorate the Revolution. Each year the government incurs significant amount of money and forces people to participate in the pro-state demonstrations of 22 Bahman.
Most of the participants have been from the state apparatus or official staffs who in case of nonparticipation might lose their jobs or face salary reduction. The students are also imposed to participate or they might get sacked from college/schools.
But this year the non-participation of people especially in Kurdistan was significant. Despite all the risk of nonparticipation, people didn’t turn up in these demonstrations.
With this boycott, the Kurdish people in East of Kurdistan showed that they are not interested in the Islamic Regime and in no way support it.
