A Kurdish Activist from Mehabad was sentenced to two years in prison

ROJHELAT, MAHABAD ─ Kurdish activist, Faiq Çîre, was summoned by the Intelligence Office in Mahabad, and he sentenced to two years in jail.

Faiq Çîre, on the 18th of May, was newly charged with both propaganda against the regime and “disturbing public opinion” by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court.

According to a person close to Faiq Çîre, one of the reasons of the recent arrest was his participation in demonstrations for solidarity with Kobanê.

Previously, Mr. Çîre had been arrested on the of 24th February by Ministry of Intelligence officers and imprisoned in Mahabad. He was subsequently transferred to Urmiye prison, and after 50 days, was bailed out to the tune of 200 million Tomans.

Faiq Çîre is married and has two children. He is working on Information Technology. He was also informed he must return to Mahabad prison within 20 days for his trial.
