Unemployment, poverty and lack of funding forced elite to leave Îlam

Rojhelat info - News

Despite struggling with many issues such as unemployment, Îlam has always faced population shortage. People of this city, including elites have migrated to other cities after disappointment in officials for not resolving the problems of the state.

Îlam is one of the biggest yet most deprived cities in Kurdistan and population wise, in the past decades the population of the province did not exceed 600,000 people. Officials of Îlam province consider this region as a security threat and for a long time neglected the inhabitants leading to the suffering of many residents. Eventually native people of Îlam migrated to other cities, to a point that even intelligent members of Îlam are no longer willing to stay in the province.

According to the manager of Îlam’s register office, population of the province is lower than the countries average and it has become an excuse for the Iranian government to not fund the province fairly. Furthermore, migration of Îlam natives has pleased the government as it fulfills their goal of cultural assimilation in the province.

In an interview with a local news agency, Mohammad Reza Morvarid, the governor of Îlam stated that the migration of smart members of society is an alarm for the province. In addition, Omran Alimohammadi, the representative of Îlam expressed his dissatisfaction of unjust distribution of Îlam’s fund shares and reminded on several occasions that people of Îlam have suffered far too many times. Despite the statements made, relevant officials have not taken any steps towards resolving the problems and the city still faces serious threats.
