Once ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Sham) terrorist group occupied Shengal (Sinjar) town, tens of thousands of civilians fled towards Shengal mountain. 6 HPG (People’s Defence Force) fighters who protected people on the mountain put up an epic battle until late evening and did not allow ISIS members to reach Shengal mountain. This act saved thousands of lives from certain massacre.
After withdrawal of Peshmerga forces of KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) from Shengal, on 3rd of August ISIS terrorist forces occupied Shengal. Majority of Ezidi residence of the city fled to Shengal mountain. Up to now tens of children lost their lives due to lack of access to food and water. Meanwhile ISIS members attempted to enter the Shengal’s mountainous region however their attempts were faced with sturdy response.
In one of the battles which took place at 7th of August, ISIS groups encountered and epic resistance that they did not expect. 6 members of HPG forces who were protecting the civilians in surrounding region engaged in battle with ISIS members and after a heroic resistance from guerrillas, ISIS was forced to retreat their forces.
This story which was made possible by HPG forces, saved thousands of lives from death. They stood ground until late evening which later YPG and YPJ forces reinforced them in the region.
