Kolbers

Almost every once in a while we hear the shocking news of the death of young Kurdish Kolbers. According to the human rights organizations’ statistics about seventy Kolbers are killed by the government’s officers and other Iranian military forces each year because they claim that Kolber job is illegal.

Young Kurdish Kolber from Selas Bawecani (Salas-e Babajani) was killed of direct shooting by Iran’s armed forces.

The local reports had indicated that at half past five in the morning on Friday first of August the Kurdish Kolber Hossein Bani was killed by Iranian military forces without any warning, his vehicle was shot in Salas-e Bawecani which was suspected to carry illegal commodities.

The Iranian governments terror and assassinate in Kurdish areas take hundreds lives every year. The victims are generally poor people who have no choice and job to afford their families expense or living except Kolberi and tradespeople.

Many people in Rojhelat (East Kurdistan), particularly those are living in border areas due to lack of government investment, the lack of employment opportunities and no factories in these areas, because people have to make living that is why they take very dangerous risk and the job which is unsafe and they are continuously been killed by Iranian regime military forces. However, the Islamic republic of Iran has never been replied and accountable for these crimes which they have done.

Couple of weeks ago the numbers of Kurdish Kolbers from Rojhelat in the Hewraman – Halabce (Halabja) border were arrested by the Peshmerga of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). They were attacked in return by the Sepah troops (Iranian Revolutionary Guards) in a border bottleneck after their release. These forces were prosecuted for a group of 8 Kolbers that three Kolbers arrested and five escaped also the Iranian forces confiscated their goods. An aware source reported Firat News Agency.

Many Kolbers were arrested by the border troops of South Kurdistan. Then they were taken to their base in the border village between Giryane and Susekan villages. They were released after few hours by 5pm on Friday 25 of August 2014. During they were returning to Rojhelat, they were caught in an ambush and were shot by Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Iranian border forces. Consequently, 10 mules were killed.

In this event, few Kolbers were able to rescue themselves from Iranian military forces’ ambushes. Those were called Iqbal, Pedram, Mohammad Aref, Bakhtiyar and Musa.

Also the source added that the border troops of Kurdish Peshmerga of south Kurdistan and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are prevented from living Kolbers who are employed to carry non-trafficking loads across borders. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards brutally attacked them and their mules were shot and all their goods confiscated and carried for themselves. Iranian Revolutionary Guards even audaciously crossed the border and invade the southern Kurdistan to target Kolbers.

The reasons why Kurdish people are approaching this job as Kolber and they take big risk are the lack of economic infrastructure, not any job provided by the governments, no factories, not any other help and support are available. What is more, the development is proportionate to the population of the region has led to widespread poverty and unemployment.

The official unemployment rate is 14% in the Kurdistani region, but local experts said that this number is incorrect, and the actual rate of unemployment in the region is much higher than 20%.

In last report, UN Special Rapporteur on Iran Ahmed Shaheed highlighted the “indiscriminate killings of Kolbers in violation of the domestic laws and international obligations of Iran.”
