Over the past few days, the people of Meriwan, in Rojhelat have been harassed by Amaken-e Sepah and Police forces of the Islamic Regime of Iran.
In a coordinated action these forces have put pressure on shopkeepers and vendors on the security pretext and they have banned peoples’ businesses in the city after 12 nights, Firat News Agency reported.
The intelligence agents and police troops act to disperse youths in this city by creating an atmosphere of fear mingled with military space.
Sepah-e Pasdaran are also inspecting the cars widely and police will patrol streets and have drivers fined. They have been banned from travelling with youth in the town centre after 12 at night.
It should be noted that despite increased pressure from government forces, it is not clear why this pressure is being exerted against the Meriwan people. The forces also have failed to provide any explanation in this regard.
Meriwan is one of the cities that are performed in civic and student activities widely. In recent years, the Iranian regime has intensified its security activities in the city due to being in the Iranian-Iraqi Kurdistan borders.
Furthermore, last weeks drama show “Che Guevara” was banned by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance (Iran) and Ettelaat Office. The show was made months ago by the Baran theatre group.
Meriwan is one of the Kurdish border cities that are located in Kurdistan province with a population of over 150 thousand people. The native language of the city is the central dialect of Kurdish (Sorani) with a minority of Hewrami dialect.
