Urmiye prison: Efshari brothers on hunger strike

Since 23 April three Kurdish political prisoners who have been convicted to death for two of them are still on hunger strike to protest of their sentences. Kurdistan Human Rights Association reported.

Eli Efshari 34 years old from Mehabad was captured in end of 2010 in Bokan city while the intelligence forces had wounded him during the shooting. Eli along with his three brothers were arrested for forth month interrogated in Mehabad and Urmiye detentions, they were tried in Mehabad Revolutionary Court on charge of Moharebe and collaboration with the Kurdish parties also no visitation with the family.

“Eli Efshari was shot in the arm and neck shot during his arrest; this had led to bleeding in his lungs. Despite his lungs had surgery in 2011 but he faced with the problem of breathlessness needs to surgery again”. Dr Siyamek Behnam had confirmed in his letter.

In 26 Jan 2011 Eli and his brother Rizgar (Hebib) 27 years old were sentenced to death penalty, this verdict were upheld by the Supreme Court. Now they are in Urmiye Jail on death row.

Rizgar Efshari from Mehabad was captured in December 2010 in Mehabad. Rizgar along with his three brothers Eli, Sultan and Weli were arrested for forth month interrogated in Mehabad and Urmiye detentions, they were tried in Mehabad Revolutionary Court on charge of Moharebe and collaboration with the Komele parties also no visitation with the family. In 26 Jan 2011 Sultan and Weli Efshari were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on charge of action against national security but Rizgar and Eli were sentenced to death. Their verdicts were upheld by the Supreme Court despite pressure from Human Rights Organization and his letter to Judiciary authorities of Iran also. Now they are in Urmiye Prison.

International circles are concerned about the rising wave of executions in Iran and Kurdistan since coming to Office of Rouhani government.
