ANF, – A delegation of BDP MPs Pervin Buldan and İdris Baluken and the HDP’s Sırrı Süreyya Önder made their 13th visit to Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı island. The message Öcalan gave to the delegation is as follows:
“Firstly, I extend my condolences to the families of the two sons of our people who lost their lives in Gever, and to the entire Kurdish people. These murders are an extreme provocation as regards the process. Everyone must be more aware than ever of bigger provocations. The best way to commemorate these two sons of the people is to perpetuate their names in the struggle for peace and freedom.”
“While I maintain my belief in the process I expect the government to take a more positive initiative on negotiations. Whoever delays democratic steps for the sake of short term election calculations will be inviting chaos and conflict and jeopardising this process that will lead to the liberation of Turkey and the region and the establishment of a truly democratic republic.
There are three significant components of this great democratic process.
Firstly there is the legal basis and the judicial framework. Secondly, since negotiations without parties is not possible the status of the parties needs to be defined within this legal framework. And thirdly, a monitoring or arbitration commission must be included in the process. Since I have responsibilities as regards initiating this process, media and other communication facilities must be provided to me urgently in order for me to communicate directly to the entire public opinion of Turkey.
“I wish success to all candidates and democratic forces in the local elections. I also wish for peace, freedom and democracy for everyone in the New Year. I also send my special greetings to the Roboski and other families, to the sick prisoners, the women and young people, to all those in prison.”
Message for Nelson Mandela
Öcalan said he felt profound sadness at the death of Nelson Mandela, adding:
“Mandela’s sensitivity towards the Kurdish people was reciprocated by the Kurds who had great respect and love for him. Nelson Mandela was a bright star who enlightened the peoples of Africa. We will ensure that this bright star will shine on the peoples of the Middle East.”
