NEWSDESK, — In an interview with Rudaw news outlet, the well-known Turkish sociologist Ismail Besikci, who has supported the rights of the Kurds, states that the 21st century is the Kurds’ century.
Dr Besikci spent more than 17 years in prison for his backing of the Kurdish demands including the rights to secede from Turkey and establish an independent Kurdistan.
In his interview with Rudaw Dr Besikci remarked that it is very important for the Kurds to maintain and strengthen their national unity.
In the international domain, said Besikci, the Kurds should raise the question of; “Why Luxemburg whose population is not more than a million has a state of its own, but the Kurds with the population of more than 40 million people should not have one.”
Asked the question of if the current century is the Kurds’century, he replied; “Yes thus I see it, that the current century is the Kurds’ century.” In the meantime he believed that the opportunity for the establishment of an independent Kurdistan has not yet arrived.
