AMED, Kurdistan Capital, — Aysel Tugluk a Co-Chair of Democratic Society Congress and deputy of Wan city was sentenced to 14 years by Turkish High Criminal Court in Amed (Diyarbakir).
Tugluk is a Member of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and Wan deputy in Turkish Parliament. Tugluk was accused of making propaganda for the PKK, an allegation she denies.
Similar accusations were put forward against the independent MP Leyla Zana who was sentenced to ten years in prison on 24 May for nine separate speeches she made in the years 2007-2008.
This comes days after Prime Minister visited Kurdistan and is paralleled to a huge campaign which led number of mayors and political figures being detained by Turkish police forces.
From the beginning of 2011 until now more than 9000 people have been arrested under the case of KCK; among these are hundreds of democratically elected politicians, journalists, lawyers and children.
