2 Kurdish political prisoners in Tabriz launched hunger strike

imagesCA4UFY6PTABRIZ, Iran, — Two Kurdish political prisoners from North Kurdistan held in Tabriz prison launched a hunger strike to protest against the maltreatments of the prison officials.

Comhur Oguc and Nihad Toncer held in Tabriz central detention had been subjected to physical assaults and degradation few days ago. They launched a hunger strike to protest against such maltreatment.

From Northern Kurdistan, Comhur Oguc has been detained since 10 May 2006 for his alleged involvement with PJAK (Kurdistan’s Free Life Party) and serving his 13 years sentences.

Nihad Toncer also from Northern Kurdistan was arrested on 23 December 2007 and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.

Both of these detainees have launched hunger strike following which they were transferred to solitary confinements.

Mother of one of the detainees said while they have requested visit their son, their appeal was turned down by the prison officials.
