MERIWAN, — Kurdish kolbers (back carrier) who toil on the pseudo-borders of Kurdistan carrying goods on their back are experiencing tragic episodes on daily basis.
Not only have the Iranian Border Guards indiscriminately shot at them killing and wounding dozens each year, the harsh climate do not show mercy either. A dead body of a kolber was found last night while he still had the goods on his back.
The victim is identified as Sediq and he was resident of Hecmene village of Meriwan.
It should be pointed that hundreds of Kurdish youth including university graduates are impelled by the widespread unemployment to work on the border ferrying goods across the borders.
According to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, 150 kolbers were killed and wounded last year. Other sources have given even higher toll.
