Strasburg: Fourth hunger striker taken to hospital

StruburgSTRASBURG, France, — The fourth hunger striker was taken to hospital today at the 46th day of the fast. Gulistan Hasan was taken to hospital as her health deteriorated last night. 

Fifteen Kurdish political activists launched an in indefinite hunger strike on 1st March demanding the lift on the isolation of Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Three of the strikers, Kerim Sivri, Tarik Yusufi and Nigar Enayati had been previously taken to hospital but refused medical treatment. Gulistan Hasan was taken to hospital today.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, had issued a statement saying that “The hunger strikes in Turkey and Strasbourg have been going on for several weeks and I am deeply concerned about the women and men who are putting their health and lives at risk”.

On Wednesday a delegation of European MPs will visit the Kurdish hunger strikers.
