Fifteen Kurdish political activists launched an indefinite hunger strike on 1st March demanding an end to isolation of Abdullah Ocalan and a political status for the Kurdish people.

The historic hunger strike of Strasburg which is in its 31rd day has been widely ignored by the western media yet supported by various Kurdish journalists and NGOs.

In a statement the Federation of Civil Societies of Kurdistan threw its backing for the campaign; “We support the civil and patriotic stance of you as fifteen political, intellectual and feminist figures in your hunger strike staged on 1st March that continued until now,” the statement said.

In the statement they have outlined that while they highly value the hunger strike, the heath of the hunger strikes are also important for them and the it should not reach a point threatening their lives for the Kurdish struggle is at the end for the life not for death.

“What you have done is unique in the world, you have fulfilled your humanistic and patriotic task, but this is the dead consciousness of the cynical states allied with the occupying powers of Kurdistan who have turned a blind eye on you and feel ashamed,” the statement concludes.
