IRAN, — On 8th March that has been recognised as the Women International Day, 47 female activists are jailed in the Iranian prisons.
The Iranian Human Right website published the details and information about 47 women activists, who were struggling for women’s right in Iran and East Kurdistan, and now spending their life behind the bars.
Of the 47 activists, 34 are sentenced to an overall of 208 years and 8 months imprisonment and the rest are facing unknown situations.
Among the prisoners, Zeneb Celalyan faced the highest charges. She was sentenced to death at first but last year her charge was reduced to a life sentence.
Miss Celalyan was charged for working with one of the Kurdish political parties, Kurdistan’s Free Life Party (PJAK), 3 years ago.
On March 8th, while women around the world are celebrating their successes in political, economic and social domains, women in Iran they are imprisoned.
