Hunger strikes against Ocalan isolation continue

Ocalana-komsu-geliyorNORTH KURDISTAN, — Hunger strikes in protest to the isolation of Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocala and the ongoing military and political operations, continue throughout North Kurdistan.

Gulten Kişanak and Selahedin Demirtaş, the co-chairs of BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) visited the 23 hunger strikers in the Mardin E Type Prison warned about the deterioration of hunger strikers’ health.

Şirnak MP Faysal Sarildiz and Mardin MP Gulser Yildirim, Kişanak and Demirtaş said that the government should hear the prisoners’ demands and take a step.

Medical and legal bodies including the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) have also expressed concern about hunger strikes and demanded an end to the isolation of Ocalan.

The Amed Bar Association visited the women prisoners on hunger strike in the Amed E Type Prison today. The Bar President M. Emin Aktar said the isolation of Ocalan should be ended for a solution of the Kurdish issue. “If some express their demands by going on a hunger strike in a country, this shows the level of unlawfulness in the country,” said Aktar.
