EAST KURDISTAN, — According to our local correspondents the Islamic Revolution Guards have been stationed in Urmiye and Selmas militarising these cities for the last couple of days.
The Human Rights Activists confirmed that in the run up to the ninth parliamentary election, military atmosphere in the Kurdish cities particularly in Urmiye and Selmas are being imposed.
The intensification of pressure on the people and the militarisation of the Kurdish cities come after a call from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps for doing so.
The Islamic Guards and the state militias known as Basij are deployed in the Kurdish cities to threaten people if they don’t take part in the election or abstain from voting.
