Turkey criticized for journalists’ detention

NEWSDESK, — Turkey has been seriously criticised by the international community for the detentions of Kurdish journalists and media workers.

“Although governments have an unquestioned right to fight terrorism, this should be carried out without silencing the press and curbing the public’s right to be informed,” said the OSCE representative on freedom of the media, Dunja Mijatovic.

Mijatovic was in Turkey recently and had several criticisms especially about difficulties reporters face to do their job without being intimidated or indeed jailed.

Claudia Roth and Cem Ozdemir, the co-leaders of Germany’s Green Party also remarked that the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) operations are worrying and unacceptable.
