Landmines takes life of many Kurdish citizens

minesEAST KURDISTAN, — According to the state’s sources, landmines had caused lives of more than fourteen civilians and about ninety seriously injured between 2010 and 2011.

Almost all the victims are Kurdish civilian especially from the cities in Elam, Kirmashan, and Urmiye.

Landmines are the hazard that has taken lives of many people in Iran especially Kurdish citizens. Muhemmed Nifriye stated that Iran is the second country for having landmine in the world.

There are around 16 million landmines in Iran that approximately12 million and 800 of these landmines have been implanted in Kurdish region.

It has stated that most of these landmines were implanted amid Iran and Iraq war. Although, many years passed since the war, the Islamic Republic has not attempted to clean the area and thus each year many people are killed or lost part of their body.
