Freedom for Kurdish National Leader

R._ApoURFA, — People in Kurdistan have strongly condemned the strict isolation of Abdullah Ocalan who has been held in solitary confinement for the last 12 years and deprived of lawyers visit.

The isolation of Ocalan was protested in Ceylanpinar and Viranşehir districts of Urfa today.  Both demonstrations were organized by BDP (Peace and Democracy Party), demanding for the end of political genocide against Kurds and the isolation of Ocalan.

Speaking at the press statement in Ceylanpinar, BDP district administrator Cemil Tuncer underlined that “The isolation of Ocalan, who struggles for peace, welfare, equality and brotherhood of all peoples in this country, drags the country into a chaos.”

BDP Viranşehir district organization chair Ali Vefa also warned that the current situation would lead to irrevocable problems in terms of Turkey’s peace. Vefa remarked that the government would never be able to suppress Kurds by killing and arresting them.

Heavy security measures were taken during both demonstrations where police as usual exposed people to GBT (criminal background check system) application.

In the meantime in the Kurdish Federal Region’s capital, Hewler (Erbil) a conference was organized asking freedom for Ocalan. The conference was attended by many civil society organizations.
