Repression of Kurdish politicians continue

KCK_trialNORTH KURDISTAN, — Mayor of Siirt Selim Sadak has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for the ludicrous charge of “making propaganda for an illegal organization”.

He was also given one additional month for addressing the Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan as Mr, in a speech he made on March 21, 2007 in Batman.

According to Amed’s 4th High Criminal Court, addressing Ocalan as Mr. was considered “Praising crime and criminals” and speaking in Kurdish during a speech was considered “propaganda.”

In other areas of Urfa Gendarmes have taken three people, including Huzni Kilic, District Chair of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), into custody and confiscated many publications found in their homes.

In Antep, 14 out of 20 people taken into custody in the context of the KCK operation have been remanded in custody by Antep Night Court.

On December 8 in Istanbul-Bakirkoy thousands of people will join the “I turn myself in” campaign, which will be held by BDP to protest the ongoing arrests and repression of Kurdish politicians as well as opposition in general.
