Thousands of fishes dead in dam construction in Ilam

IlamILAM, East Kurdistan, — Construction of a dam in the Kurdish city of Ilam has left tens of thousand of dead fishes.

The Iranian authorities have recently started to construct dams in the region of Kurdistan ostensibly to help the improvements of the agriculture in the area.

However, this project has caused damages to the traces of ancient’s civilisation by getting them under water, and also some rivers that were the main sources for agriculture are being dried.

Accordingly, due to the loss of water in the Simere Lake in Ilam, in the surrounding of the construction project, tens of thousands of fishes were found dead.

The dead fishes stink strongly in the area raising the probability of relating diseases.

The political analysts believe that the construction of dams is aimed at drying out the rivers flowing from the east of Kurdistan to south of Kurdistan.

This is associated with the purpose of putting the Kurdish Regional Government under pressure, and making it more reliant on Iran for water.
