HPG apologizes for Siirt attack

HPGBADINAN, — People’s Defence Forces (HPG) released a statement about the attack in Siirt in which four civilians died on September 21 and apologized for the attack.

“The guerrilla opened fire against a civilian car which was heading towards the police academy and was mistaken for a police vehicle.” said the HPG apologizing to the families and relatives of the people who died in the attack.

The statement also added that a “major investigation” has been launched about the event.

The statement said; “Our guerrilla forces had planned to ambush policemen in the area of the police vocational high school in the city of Siirt on September 21, 2011. A civilian car heading towards the police academy was mistaken for a police car by the guerrillas who opened fire. Four civilians lost their lives and two were wounded. First and foremost, we, the HPG, apologize to our people, families and relatives of the four victims for the pain we have caused.”

Underlining that a major investigation has been launched after the attack, HPG added it never carries out actions which could lead to civilian casualties. “As the public knows, we handle each wrong actions and attacks against civilians by launching a strict investigation and judgment. We therefore rejects and refrain from actions which could harm civilians.” added HPG.

The statement concluded by saying that the investigation would be serious and shared with the public.
