TURKEY, — The Women Initiative for Peace has organized a meeting at 6pm in Taksim Square in Istanbul to protest against the government position and the current deadlock in the Kurdish problem. Spokesperson of Initiative, Nebile Irmak Çetin, emphasized that many women, including writers, intellectuals and performers from different cities and ethnic background will sit in the square for peace until midnight. Irmak also indicated that the government budget needs to be spent for public health, education and social-security instead of war.
Irmak called on people to take part in the action to promote works for peace. Yesterday many cities saw protest against military operations and the isolation of Abdullah Ocalan.
In Amed (Diyarbakir) and Cizre police brutally assaulted the women marching using tear gas and wounded several women.
There was another march in Bulanık, a district of Muş. Many people attended the sit-in action in the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) building. BDP Bulanık Co-Chair Mahinur Taş indicated that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) wants to finish the struggle for freedom. He argued that Ocalan is important to solve the Kurdish Problem.
In Silopi, thousands of women from Democratic and Free Women Movement (DOKH) marched against military operations and the isolation of Abdullah Ocalan.
Finally, the Bodrum Democratic Voice Platform sent 300 peace letters to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Speakership of Parliament. The letters’ title were; “I want peace, no war. I’m a side of peace against war; I’m a side of life against death.”
