Sherko Mearfi on hunger strike

shirkoSEQIZ, East Kurdistan, — Kurdish political prisoner Sherko Mearfi, whose execution is scheduled for 1st May has been on hunger strike since last Thursday.

According to Mukryan News Agency, Sherko said during a phone call from prison, to protest against his unknown situation in prison, he had staged a hunger strike on Thursday and informed the prison officials and the public prosecutor about his hunger-strike.

Sherko Mearfi is a 31 years-old Kurdish civil activist who dedicated himself to the Kurdish cause. He was arrested in 2008 and in a show trial, lasting only for few minutes, was convicted of ‘Mohareb’, the enmity against the God and sentenced to death.

During his imprisonment he had been subjected to tortures and mistreatments. His execution is scheduled for 1st May the Workers International Day.
