PKK and PJAK prisoners to stage a hunger strike

guerriglierikurdiKURDISTAN, — Five thousand political prisoners from PKK and PJAK in Kurdistan and Turkey are to start a two-day warning hunger strike “to protest against fascist-racist attacks and for the implementation of people’s demands”. The prisoners warned that they will take a tougher line if attacks are not ended, ANF reported.

The statement of imprisoned PKK and PJAK members in Kurdistan and Turkey’s prisons was made by Deniz Kaya on behalf of the prisoners. Expressing that the Turkish state is implementing the “comprehensive destruction plans” predicted in 2011 against Kurdish volition; the statement drew attention to the repression, detention, arrest and lynching policies of the state.

The prisoners, declaring that they will start a hunger strike to protest the attacks against Kurdish people, said the followings concerning the hunger-strike;

“We, as five thousand PKK and PJAK prisoners in Kurdistan and Turkey’s prisons, will be starting a two-day warning hunger strike in all prisons as of April 7, 2011 in order to protest these fascist and racist attacks carried out against our people and to demand the satisfaction of their demands”.

FOUR DEMANDS

The prisoners’ demands are as follows:

  • The lift of the racial-assimilation and the bans on the use of Kurdish language and the recognition of the right for education in mother tongue, organization and publication.
  • Ending of military and political genocide operations.
  • Release of all political prisoners.
  • Abolition of ten percent electoral threshold that is implemented with the intention to exclude our people and democratic circles from politics.

    The statement made on behalf of prisoners ended with a warning to the Turkish state and government; “We want it to be known that our attitude will be tougher in case of continuation of these attacks and the responsibility of the negativity to emerge will belong to the regime, not us”.
