WEST KURDISTAN, — Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD reports that supporters of the Democratic Union Party – PYD, and the organization of Sittar Women in Damascus have been arrested during February 2011:
- Farhan Muhammad Bashir, aged 17 from the Qamishli area was arrested on 24 February at 3am.
- Naima Hassan Latif , aged 30 from Qamishli area was arrested on 25 February.
- Halima Khalil Sharwish, aged 35 from Gera Soar Fakar village, was arrested on February 12, at 7pm Photos
- Besna Saaed Saadoun, 15 years old year was arrested with her mother Halima Sarwish (above)
- Aisha Haji Kalash, aged 45 years old from the village Bane Shkefti, Deyrik was arrested on 12 February.
Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD condemns these arrests of political activists made without warrants, and demands information about the fate of the detainees. There has been no judicial oversight of their detention and no one can contact them.
MAD also said that this is a blatant violation of basic human rights, and calls on the authorities to lift the State of Emergency in the country and the abolition of martial law and special courts, and for the introduction and enactment of the modern party law and the release of all political prisoners.
