SYRIA, — Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD and Media Institute of West Kurdistan Society report that Alla Jamal Shekho is the first Kurdish conscript to die in suspicious circumstances in the Syrian army, in 2011. His family received his body on 20 January 2011. He is twenty years old, from Afrin, and was serving his military service in the Syrian army with one of the military units stationed in the province of Lattakia.
Military officials told Alla Jamal Shekho’s family that he had committed suicide by shooting himself. Information has been received that indicates that young Alla Jamal Shekho was not suffering from any psychological problems that would drive him to commit suicide, and so news of his death by suicide has been received with the same scepticism that has been shown regarding every serving Kurdish soldier who has died in mysterious circumstances.
Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD and Media Institute of West Kurdistan Society are concerned that the killing of Kurds in the Syrian army now appears to have become a policy arising from the corrupt system that affects the lives of Kurds in so many ways.
