Kurdish prisoner found dead in his cell

GuardTURKEY, — A Kurdish prisoner who was charged with affiliation with the Kurdistan Worker Party (PKK), was found dead in his cell in Adana F Type Prison yesterday.

Rahmi Oner was arrested in 2006 by Syrian officials and handed over to Turkey where he was serving life sentence in Adana Prison.

Mr. Oner was found dead in his cell and the prison administration said Oner committed suicide.

Turkish authorities informed Oner’s family last night by phone that their son is dead. Father Enver Oner says he doesn’t believe that his son committed suicide and appealed for a detailed investigation.

Oner also appealed to Human Rights Association’s Adana branch for legal help.
