NORTH KURDISTAN, — According to Human Rights Association’s report Turkish army is responsible for forest fires destroying thousands of hectares of land.
Turkish army set 76 forest fires in between July and August and 98 fires in 2010 as a whole.
IHD said the forest fires destroyed Kurdish countryside mainly in Dersim and Sirnak.
30 forest fires were reported in Sirnak and 28 forest fires in Dersim in 2010.
According to ANF a Kurdish villager, Cangir Ustun (69) was killed in a forest fire which was set by Turkish army last August in Sirnak. Two others were wounded in the same incident.
Three Kurdish villages in Batman province, Keceli, Palamutlu and Günesli were forced to evacuate their houses that were set on fire by the Turkish soldiers in 2010.
