Turkey to build up 86 new prisons

 

According to Firat News Agency to Turkey is going to build up 86 new prisons. It is what emerged after the reply given by Minister of Justice Sadullah Ergin to MP Bengi Yildiz from the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP). The new prisons would accommodate up to 40 thousand people and will be completed between 2010 and 2015.

 

At the present time the capacities of the Turkish prisons have increased by 10 percent since 2002 and the prisons are suffering overcrowding problem.

 

According to figures given by the minister, Turkey is overspending on prisons instead of allocating resources to other important public institutions. Around two billion Turkish liras will be spent until 2015 to complete new prisons. 32 prisons will be completed by end of the 2012.
