Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) lawmaker Faysal Sariyildiz visited 17-year-old Reker Ahmed, who was the victim of a “savage attack” in Croydon, England recently and said the young man was “very pleased to be alive.”
Reker Ahmed, a Kurd from Rojhelat (eastern Kurdistan), was beaten severely by a group of more than a dozen people after they found out he was an asylum seeker.
Speaking to Kom News, rights activist Zinar Demeni, who visited Ahmed with Mr. Sariyildiz, said the attack was not representative of the British public and that the community had gathered around the Kurdish teenager.
“I told him that the British people and community were behind him and that the media had reported his case widely. This put a smile on his face. But he was still in a lot of pain.”
A fund launched for the young man has already raised more than £50,000.
Thirteen people, aged between 15 and 24, have been charged with violent disorder in relation to the attack, the BBC reported. Three others were arrested but will face no charges while police are still looking for another five males.
