KCK: Iranian regime must halt executions

The KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council has issued a message on the fourth anniversary of the execution of 4 PJAK (Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) members, calling on the Iranian government to take concrete steps towards a resolution of the Kurdish question and to halt executions.

Iran hanged Kurdish teachers and human rights activists Ferzad Kemanger, Ferhad Wekili, Shirin Elemhuli and Eli Heyderiyan in Tehran on 9 May 2010.

The statement read: “We remember Ferzad Kemanger, Ferhad Wekili, Shirin Elemhuli and Eli Heyderiyan and repeat our pledge to step up the struggle for a free Kurdistan. In their persons we also commemorate all the martyrs of the Kurdistan revolution.”

The message continued: “Instead of recognising the rights of the Kurds in East Kurdistan, the regime has used the most brutal methods, including the death penalty, to suppress the struggle led by the PJAK. The noble stance taken by Ferzad Kemanger, Ferhat Wekili, Shirin Elemhuli and Eli Hayderiyan as they went to the gallows is an expression of the epic struggle of the Kurdish resistance. Their heroism continued the honourable stand taken by Sheikh Said, Seyid Riza, Sheikh Abdulselam, Qazi Muhammed and Leyla Qasim on the gallows of the colonialists. They demonstrated that they would not hesitate to sacrifice themselves for the national cause and succeeded in keeping alive the hopes for freedom.”

KCK stressed that; “The letters written by these heroic young people and their stand on the gallows leave a manifesto of resistance to future generations. In particular, the noble stand of Şirin Elemhuli represents not only Kurdish women, but also all women in Iran and in the entire region and demonstrates the path to national and social liberation. These Kurds made the ultimate sacrifice for the Persian, Azeri, Arab, Turkish, Armenian and Assyrian peoples. They struggled for the cause of a democratic nation solution which expresses the equality and unity of peoples and sects that have been alienated one from the other by the nation state.”

Underlining that the people of East Kurdistan can guarantee a free future on account of having such heroic children that do not hesitate to sacrifice themselves, KCK called on the Iranian regime to take concrete steps towards a resolution of the Kurdish question and to halt executions, and called on the Kurdish people to take ownership of all their martyrs, first and foremost the martyrs of 9 May, and step up their struggle.
