Iran removes official after Evin incident

According to a report from Associated Press, Iran’s official news agency says the official in charge of the country’s prisons have been removed from the post. The development follows reports of alleged abuse of inmates at a Tehran penitentiary.

Gholamhossein Esmaili has been transferred to a similarly high-ranking position as prosecutor and head of the appeals court in the capital. However, analysts say many consider the move to be a quiet dismissal.

Mr Esmaili denied claims by relatives that 30 prisoners were injured, four of them seriously, during an inspection. But several MPs called on the justice minister to investigate the incident. BBC quoted.

Based on news from Human Right Organization of Kurdistan, Last Thursday in relevance with the prisoner’s protest of section 350 of Evin Prison, security forces raided the protesting prisoners. Numbers of civil and political prisoners were seriously injured in clashes.

One of the prisoners was Mohammed Sediq Kebudwend nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and founder of the Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan that met briefly with his wife after four days of absolute ignorance. In dialogue with the secretariat HROK Ms Parinaz Hosseini described Kebudwend condition to be very poor.

Families of the prisoners was purposely beaten during a snap inspection at Evin prison held at a rally this week in front of the parliament and outside President Hassan Rouhanis’ office, demanding an explanation.

In this regard the Co-ordination of Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) condemned the assault on political prisoners, stating that “the policy of execution, detention and torture assesses an alarm for all nations of Iran. This is a repeated massacres of the 60’s”.

Relatives interviewed by BBC described the actions of the guards as very harsh and said some inmates required treatment for injuries including broken ribs.

Human rights activists have accused the Iranian authorities of regularly subjecting prisoners, especially those convicted on politically-motivated charges, to abuse and deprive them bn of medical treatment.
