KNK held conference on Rojhelat

Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) held a conference in the Swedish city of Västerås to discuss the situation of Rojhelat (East Kurdistan) and the strengthening of internal alliance as part of works for national unity.

The two-day conference on 19-20 April was attended by the representatives of many political parties, non-governmental organizations and independent individuals, intellectuals and academics from Canada, Scandinavian countries, Europe and Rojhelat.

Two years ago, KNK held a conference on West Kurdistan in the French city of Paris on 13 October 2012. The conference witnessed broad participation by parties and organizations from four parts of Kurdistan.

The KNK conference in Västerås started with one minute’s silence and continued with the speeches of KNK President Tahir Kemalizade, KNK Executive Council member Zübeyir Aydar who both put emphasis on the importance of dialogue and a national stance in Rojhelat.

Zübeyir Aydar who focused in his speech on developments in the Middle East pointed out that it was necessary in the current process more than ever to ensure a political and social unity in Rojhelat.

The conference session on the first day witnessed speeches of many parties and organizations including those of Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK) leader Abdurrahman Heci Ehmedi, and members of Yarsan Democratic Movement, Kurdistan Association for Equality (Komeley Yeksanî Kurdistan), East Kurdistan Liberation Party, Kurdistan Freedom Party, Zagros Platform, Kurdistan Community for Peace and Development (CAPEK), Grassroots Movement of Xorasan Kurmancs, Kurdistan Human Rights Association, Kurdosayd Watch, Kurdistan Women’s Platform and the Association of Kurdish Mothers in Sweden.

Speakers mainly focused on the need to establish an extensive mechanism to serve the struggle for the development of dialogue and collaboration and for the attainment of basic rights in Rojhelat.

Sending a video message to the conference, KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-President Cemil Bayık called attention to the conflict environment in the Middle East and to the struggle people have given against this war. Bayık stressed that an external intervention wouldn’t help to come up with a solution for the Middle East where -he underlined- people demanded self-determination but couldn’t achieve their goal due to a lack of leadership.

Bayık remarked that al-Qaeda wanted to use this blank and accomplished only daily results.

The KCK executive put emphasis on the need to come up with a solution to the leadership problem of peoples, and continued; “The peoples of the Middle East need to fight against capitalist modernity and their allies to prevent the achievement of the capitalist modernity’s intervention in the region. This is the only way to lead the peoples of the Middle East to freedom.”

Bayık also emphasized that Kurds have been giving a struggle for years now, and that they demanded a solution not only to the Kurdish question but also to the problem of the peoples of the Middle East.
