INTERVIEW, – Telephone interview of Newroz TV with the member of PJAK diplomacy centre Ferhad Abdullazadegan.

NEWROZ TV: What are the result of local administration declared in Rojava and what consequences can be sought for the people of Western Kurdistan?

Ferhad Abdullazadegan: In fact, I do not want to put its name as “interim government” because the Rojava officials have announced it is a democratic self-rule not an interim government. Before the fallout of Syria’s crises in 2011, the Kurdish struggle continued to establish a democratic structure that does not jeopardize the unity and integration of Syria as well. After the conflict in Syria, the Kurds neither were placed in the regional powers front nor in the way of West particularly US. The Kurds put forward an independent theory (third line doctrine) which was to create a democratic system that guarantees the rights of all people in Western Kurdistan.

NEWROZ TVWhy the Turkish government and Syrian National Coalition (SNC) have disagreed with the declaration of the democratic self-rule in Rojava?

Ferhad Abdullazadegan: This is not unexpected that the Turkish government is opposed with the Rojava autonomy because they have their own policies in connection with Syria. Since the beginning of the conflict in Syria, Turkey’s regime has been the first actor in the Middle East wanting to extend its hegemony throughout Syria and Western Kurdistan to prevent the establishment of a democratic structure therein. In the early 1990s Turkey started to oppose Kurdish autonomy in Southern Kurdistan but then it came to term with it. Likewise, despite all these clamorous attitudes Turkey would have to aspect what has been achieved in Western Kurdistan. Similarly the opposition of Syrian National Coalition to declaration of Rojava self-rule is strongly influenced by the Turkey’s hegemony.

NEWROZ TVHow has been the approach of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and role of Mr, Barzani?

Ferhad Abdullazadegan: When you talk about the Kurdistan Regional Government, mission of Mr. Barzani should be considered as president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). It is obvious that Mr. Barzani and KDP are not satisfied with the Rojava achievements. No one is unaware of the ties between the Justice and Development Party (Turkey) and KDP headed by Barzani and their attitudes are influenced by each other. KPD is seeking to extend its hegemony over all four parts of Kurdistan but two things will never be shared: economic question in Kurdistan and international diplomacy related to Kurdistan. Formation of a democratic self-rule in Rojava threatens seriously the hegemony of Barzani and KDP. It could also reduce the energy of this party in future.
