A Kurdish political prisoner died in detention

Prison_-_rejaie-shahr-karajKARAJ, Iran, — A Kurdish political prisoner who had been held in Rejaeeshahr prison serving his life sentence died of numerous diseases he had struggled with.

Mohammad Mehdi Zaliye jailed for the last 20 years died yesterday of illness caused by systematic torture he was subjected to while held in prison.

According to reports by Human Right Activists Mr. Mehdi Zaliye fell ill for the bad prison condition and his request for medical treatment was repeatedly turned down by the prison officials. It was also reported that only few days before his death, he was taken to clinic.

According to the similar report between 10—15 prisoners have lost their lives in detention and few more are that the verge of death.

It was learned that Mohammad Mehdi Zaliye was affected by chemical bombardment during the Iran Iraqi war and fell ill. He was arrested in the early 1990 on the charge of political action against the Iranian regime and sentenced to life.

He died on yesterday after serving 20 years.
