Iraq to buy US drones to monitor oil fields

droneBAGHDAD, — After the recent purchase of F16 jet fighters from the US, Iraqi government is planning to buy unnamed drones to protect oil reserves, KNN reports. 

The official from office of security cooperation in Iraq which is part of US embassy has confirmed that they have purchased drones after oil production has risen.

Iraqi security officials confirmed plans to use the US drones to protect oil infrastructure.

“According to the energy police plans, we intend to use the drones by the end of this year,” head of the energy protection force, major general Hamid Ibrahim told Reuters, adding, “We are in the process of training engineers.”

The southern oilfields around Basra are the heart of Iraq’s production, where majors companies like BP, Exxon Mobil and Italy’s are working.
