Baghdad will cut south Kurdistan budget

SOUTH KURDISTAN, — Iraqi deputy Prime Minister for energy announced he will cut Kurdistan budget as result of halting oil export by Kurdistan Regional Government. This is also discussed and accepted by council of ministers and council of energy, Sbeiy News reports.

The new charges further escalate an impasse between Baghdad and the autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq. There has been a long dispute with Iraq’s central government over the rights to control the oil resources in the region and it has periodically caused disruption of oil exports from the Kurdish region.

The Kurdistan Regional Government decided on Sunday to halt crude oil exports from the region of around 90,000 to 100.000 barrels a day, accusing the central government in Baghdad of falling to make payments to companies working in Kurdistan.
